Promotion of Millet and Spice cultivation and value addition — linking traditional agricultural wisdom to modern organic food markets. This initiative not only preserves indigenous crops but also strengthens food security, nutrition, and climate resilience among the Sahariya population.

Marketing Strategy

  • Localized Branding: Use regional language and cultural elements from Gwalior’s heritage.
  • Community Endorsement: Involve local leaders and influencers for awareness.
  • Distribution Network: Build partnerships with local stores and intermediaries.
  • Affordability: Ensure low-cost, accessible pricing with incentives for bulk buyers.
  • Word-of-Mouth Promotion: Encourage satisfied customers to spread awareness.
  • Digital Presence: Leverage social media and local forums for brand outreach.

Expected Outcomes

  • Enhanced self-employment and entrepreneurship among Sahariya women and youth.
  • Development of sustainable, market-oriented rural enterprises.
  • Increased household income and improved standard of living.
  • Strengthened confidence, literacy, and leadership among women.
  • Preservation of traditional practices while adapting to modern eco-markets.

Problem Statement

The Sahariya community, a marginalized tribal group in the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, faces severe economic deprivation and social exclusion. Key issues include:

  • Loss of livelihood due to environmental restrictions and loss of access to land and forest resources.
  • Dependence on unsustainable forms of income like casual labor and seasonal migration.
  • Lack of education, modern skills, and awareness of non-farm opportunities.
  • Gender disparities and underutilized potential of women.
  • Minimal market exposure and weak linkages with formal economic systems.
  • This project seeks to bridge these gaps through skill development, entrepreneurship training, and sustainable market-oriented initiatives.
